I’m dreaming of a fried shrimp Christmas…

It’s 2010. It’s time to announce what we bought/made:

10 lbs of shrimp

…4 lbs were jumbo shrimp

…6 lbs were regular shrimp

2 lbs of calamari

6 blue crabs that were too small (literally probably illegally sized, but we bought ‘em anyways.)

5-6 lobster tails

5 lbs of mussels

5 lb of littlenecks

For those of you playing along at home, that’s 22 lbs of seafood, with some lobsters and clams thrown in there, for good measure. We’ll also be making some pasta. Oh night, Divine. Here we go, friends. Pictures to come tomorrow, if we survive the night…

Christmas Eve dinner

The fry daddy post-shrimp.

Cocktail sauce — hot and mild.

Nikki smelling the bread and Jon questioning the situation.

Garlic lemon shrimp. Divine.

The sauce with crabs.

The mussels and the clams.

Nikki waiting for dinner to be ready.

The pasta.

Michael wondering why we were annoyed that he was eating Jax, instead of delicious Christmas dinner.

Lara trying to open a lobster tail.

Christmas Eve dinner prep

This is the squid, which shortly went into the sauce…

These are the shrimp which are defrosting.

Blue crabs that will also go into the sauce.

The lobster tails.

Garlic galore!

And, here are the shrimp.

Lobster tails and blue crabs together.

The mussels being washed…

The eggs for the egg casserole.

Mmmm….bread, spinach, cheese, and egg? How can you go wrong?

Bacon for the casserole.

The sauce. Delicious.

T-minus 8 hours (or so)

After a breakfast of Barefoot Contessa Coffee cake and about a half dozen pots of coffee, the Palluzzi family is coming out of its food coma to start putting together a plan for the delicious meal that awaits.

First up, crab/assorted seafood sauce. This starts with garlic and oil, and lobster tails, calamari, and blue crabs.

Think about that combination for a minute.

The next several tasks include scrubbing clams and mussels, de-tailing the shrimp, and walking around the kitchen, picking up all the paper towels that my mother leaves on the kitchen counter.

It’s a sickness, I think.

That’s all for now–one more cup of coffee, and I’ll be ready to roll.  We’ll check in once things get rolling. Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

Christmas 2009: It begins.

Hello world! Seeing as the Palluzzi family eats a massive amount each Christmas, I thought it wise to start a blog. So welcome!

I arrived home on Monday, and now it is Wednesday and Nikki gets home today. Mom and I went shopping yesterday to finish the preparations for Christmas, and tomorrow will commence the cooking of the 7ish fishes.

The menu, and poundage, this year:

5 lbs little neck clams
5 lbs mussels
6 lbs shrimp
6 lobster tails
2.5 lbs squid

We also decided to make PW bacon macaroni and cheese, and are doubling the egg casseroles this year to make 2 — one with spinach, one with just sausage. Delicious. More when Nikki arrives…
